Scott Kitun (00:01.879)

What up, Joe?

Venmo Joe (00:04.284)

Scotty, major season is is done, man. Our first our first our first major season as as podcast hosts is over. I'm kinda sad.

Scott Kitun (00:08.396)

Major season

Scott Kitun (00:15.19)

I am too. Major season's over, but no strokes is not over. We're just getting started. We got the the FedEx coming. We got TGL coming in. We got all kinds of stuff that that we will have a full opportunity to cover this year. Last year we just texted about it. This year we get to actually talk about it, which I'm excited about. the open you said it, I think you summarized it best. I we'll talk about the open in its entirety, but

Venmo Joe (00:18.982)

No, we're just getting started.

Venmo Joe (00:30.941)

Yeah.

Scott Kitun (00:41.64)

You you made multiple comments about the Aaron Ryness of major season and just the way that like this tournament reminded me of that tournament where this guy is a couple over on Sunday. He's like not in any better shape than anybody else. And all of a sudden he kind of looks, see who's like in the driver's seat, then he falters, Cam's pounding away, and Ryan Fox just decided on like nine. Fuck this noise.

Venmo Joe (00:51.194)

It did, it did.

Venmo Joe (01:02.462)

to see we'll

Venmo Joe (01:09.096)

Just like Aaron Rye did. Literally just like just like Aaron Rye did. He was the one guy that like made putts, right? Like I think he wa he honestly, like down that stretch, right? And you know, I was tracking Ryan Gerard, because that's who who I had kind of gravitated towards on Friday. Guy didn't make a birdie all day on Sunday. Like there was just a cover on the on the hole.

Scott Kitun (01:09.344)

And it looked like a possessed animal man on seventeen.

Scott Kitun (01:32.002)

Nobody did, except for Cam and Scotty and Ryan.

Venmo Joe (01:34.25)

And yeah, Cam Young did obviously, but like those last groups, the only guy that put the ball in the hole, and was aggressive and seemed to be hitting golf shot after golf shot was Ryan Fox. And it's just it like what we were texting about, like the comparison between the open and and the PGA, it's like you had the stack leaderboard at both events and you just assumed it was gonna be a big name. You assumed it was gonna be a big name at Eronomick, whether it was gonna be Rom or Ludwig.

Or Rory on that Sunday. And then the same thing here, right? Like Scotty was there. Cam was there. Sam Burns, like the guy that you and I, like, I know we didn't get it across the finish line, but my God, if we've been on that guy. we said it was coming. It's still unfortunately coming. But like I I think everyone just made the assumption that, all right, you know, Lucas Herbert and Ryan Fox, that's a that's a cute story. They both shot 62. They'll fall off, right? just like you expected Aaron Rye to do, and he just

Scott Kitun (02:27.671)

Don't fall off.

Venmo Joe (02:33.97)

He went and won the golf tournament. I mean, I was so impressed with how he handled the the two bad breaks that he got on the back nine. Like that, that lie that he had in the bunker on 15 on that par three, where he me that he hit a great shot there. Like he was a foot away from that carrying the bunker, just like Ryan Gerrard did like 10 minutes earlier, right? Where it was like a foot away from being an awesome shot.

And that's kind of Lynx golf, right? It's just like those those breaks and those bounces. He has to play, he has to play out sideways on the bunker. And like what I respected about Ryan Fox was he just went up there. He didn't bitch. He didn't moan. Like he just went, he assessed the situation. He got the ball back in play. And then he made an unbelievable up and down. And he kind of did the same thing on 17. He ripped an unbelievable two iron that went.

330 yards and f somehow finds its way into that bunker. and again, like he just he assessed the situation and he went and gave himself a really good look at Birdie on 17. He didn't make that, he did it on 18, but I don't know. It was a it was it was refreshing to kind of see I know he's 39, he's been around forever, he's won around the globe, but like relatively a new guy on the scene for like the casual.

Scott Kitun (03:32.245)

That was nuts.

Venmo Joe (03:56.809)

golf fans, it he was just he was like a fresh breath of fresh air, right? Like just played quick, just was like bouncing around, just wanted to hit the shots.

Scott Kitun (04:04.813)

Yeah.

He played quick as an understatement. 20 This guy's playing for the biggest putt of his fucking professional life, biggest stage to win the major of all majors, and he putted the ball 20 seconds after Burns missed. He just literally is like, he's like pacing around and stuff and just like wandering and like somebody made a comment about that. He was wandering during Burns' putt. I was like, I wouldn't necessarily be doing that, but he was. He was just.

Venmo Joe (04:09.501)

Yeah.

Venmo Joe (04:21.454)

After Sam Burns got the a got the ball out of the hole.

Venmo Joe (04:28.092)

Well dude, I was I was

Venmo Joe (04:33.752)

I I was I was laughing so hard at him on the T box on eighteen because that eighteen T shot, terrifying, right? But like he could not wait to hit it. And I'm sure like I don't know if you actually jumped into the prediction market at that point. I wish I did, because like looking back on it, it's like, man, that guy was not afraid of the moment. would have buried him, right? Cause like you just knew he was gonna hit an unbelievable drive on eighteen. Like he was

So frustrated that the group in front of them was taking too long, right? Like he just wanted a hit as soon as he got the clearance. He pipes one perfectly down there, splits all of the bunkers, and gives himself a chance to put something on the putting surface and make a putt. And that's what he did. Like that 18 was the hardest hole all week. People made a mess of it. There was hardly, I think there was three three birdies on Sunday, and one was

Scott Kitun (05:25.901)

Three birdies on Sunday, right? He's one of them.

Venmo Joe (05:29.682)

Tommy Ladd, who was completely out of the fucking tournament when he made that birdie. and the guy that had the court, dude, he is he he is the greatest at a non-contending top five that I've ever seen. He's like, he's the new Patrick Cantley. How Cantley used to always just like you you wouldn't even see him, but all of a sudden you'd look at the at the leaderboard.

Scott Kitun (05:35.105)

Which is where he likes to be anyway. That's perfect.

Scott Kitun (05:46.667)

He is. Yeah.

You just trip and fall and be like, top five.

Venmo Joe (05:53.379)

You'd look at the leaderboard on on Sunday after the tournament and you're like, dude, I I didn't see one can't lay shot, but there he is in the top five, like just a non-contending top five. but yeah, I don't not the not the champion golfer of the year that that anyone predicted, but you know, I respect his game. And you know, the more that I've read up on him and just kind of heard other people's opinions of him that know him, like it sounds like a kind of like what we talked about there, right? Just sounds like a

Good dude and he's just not weird like Aaron, right? Like he's a grinder. He didn't pick up he didn't pick up golf until he was like thirteen years old. His dad is like a world famous rugby player from for the all blacks in New Zealand. Like he just got a cool story.

Scott Kitun (06:23.831)

Grinder.

Scott Kitun (06:38.859)

He's an athlete. He's just a dude who's like just an athlete, comes from his great grandfather, was the same, is also like a professional lacrosse or something, rugby, cricket, whatever the hell it was. I don't remember.

Venmo Joe (06:40.573)

Yeah.

Venmo Joe (06:49.32)

Yeah, his grandpa his grandpa was like an unbelievable cricket player and then the dad was rugby and then he's you know, now he's a world class golfer. Hell of a hell of a family lineage of athletes there.

Scott Kitun (06:58.156)

I mean

Dude, that that mantle, is there anything you guys aren't good who bowls at this house? Any bowlers? Mom's a mom's a bowler.

Venmo Joe (07:05.65)

Well what I what I respect too, he's got you know, Ryan Fox has got that dad bot too, right? So, you know, you know, I'm watching the tournament watching the tournament with my yeah.

Scott Kitun (07:10.905)

yeah. He's got the flanged out left foot. He just hangs it out and he kind of like he's. This is the kind of dude who like takes a piss at the urine with the hand on the hip, just sort of. We all know that guy. It's like, Jesus Christ. No, he's he's very likable. The funny thing about it is, like, to the Aaron Rye thing, I and I I'm not taking anything away from Aaron. We talked about this on the show. He won it in a way where you had to go back and you're like,

Venmo Joe (07:21.822)

Ha ha ha

my god.

Scott Kitun (07:40.568)

Did did just no one grab this? Like it just did he just like win because no one else did? And then you're like, actually, no, because he had the like five birdies. Like he he definitely went and got it, but in your brain, it didn't register. This was the opposite. This was where like you saw a dude really not in great shape midway through the round. And then you talked about the the hiccups. The hiccups, instead, it almost as to me as like, and this also goes to him playing faster after that. I think he looked at it and goes,

Venmo Joe (07:45.331)

Yeah.

Venmo Joe (08:00.51)

Yeah, it was struggling.

Scott Kitun (08:10.411)

These are the kind of things that have to happen in order to win. Forget about me, Ryan Fox. In order to win a major, generally, a couple of things have to break really, really right, or you just crush the field. It's it's like rarely like, like that's where the the the young Cam Young would have been a cool comeback, but like you'd look at the round and goes like three under, three under, whatever, three under, five under, like, you know, like he just kind of got there. That's like a rare way to win, let alone a major. I think that Fox is like, okay, I had the moment.

The 62, I would have told you, and it's where my money went on Burns. He has a 62 with a hole out on 18 to get it. So now I'm really like, everything's working in Burns' way. Fox has that moment too. Burns Fox. Burns Fox. I'm gonna take Burns, no question. Then he comes out, he has a couple hiccups. Well, yeah, but then Fox has a couple hiccups. He gets a good shot out. He has none of the disasters like melt around. And I think in his head a light bulb went off. Holy shit, the board is coming back to me.

Venmo Joe (08:46.365)

Yeah, it was great.

Venmo Joe (08:55.45)

you gotta take burns.

Venmo Joe (09:10.236)

Yep.

Scott Kitun (09:10.337)

And I'm getting the brakes. If there's ever a time for me to win this, it's gonna be right now when everyone's coming, the water's coming back to me and I got away with some shit. We are on even footing. And from that moment on, he went nuts. And if you had any questions as to whether or not he deserved or earned or won this tournament, that 18th hole, 17th hole also, because he he got himself there and just didn't roll. The 18th hole, that birdie, that fucking dude, I mean, he was any and he was in a hurry. It was like he knew if I wait any longer.

Venmo Joe (09:32.828)

Yeah. Perfect perfect hole perfect hole. Per you played a perfect hole.

Scott Kitun (09:40.493)

If I'm out here for even one minute more, anything can happen and I'm not gonna win. I gotta get the fuck off this course. And he just went out and took it.

Venmo Joe (09:47.76)

Well, I I love that what he said. He's like I couldn't even feel my hands on eighteen. He's like I I

Scott Kitun (09:51.596)

Yeah. You know he's just like I I'm just going. I know what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna go. I'm telling you, if if he could have putted his putt the middle of Burns' backstroke on eighteen, he would have. I don't think he would even give it a shit. So I kudos to that guy. That was that made it fun. I I was busy when it happened watching it, but I was busy making preparations for my bet on Cam Young winning in a playoff. I was certain of it. probably wouldn't have happened, but

Venmo Joe (09:59.933)

He would have done it, yeah. Yeah.

Venmo Joe (10:17.512)

Yeah.

Scott Kitun (10:19.093)

I don't know. I was I was certain of it. So, like when you said, you know, were you on that's a good time to be on Robin Hood and prediction markets? I was, in fact. And I was ready to put my money on Cam Young. I thought Burns, you had texted me, don't worry about it. Like he's eight under, whatever, and or seven under, eight under, nine. It never happened. It never it never happened. He looked like he knew the outcome, like four holes earlier.

Venmo Joe (10:33.668)

I I kept waiting for him to make a putt, man, and it just never happened. It never happened.

Scott Kitun (10:47.777)

I don't I'm not saying he choked, he just had a look on his face like fuck.

Venmo Joe (10:48.028)

He's got, I mean, I just I no, I don't, I don't, yeah, I don't think he choked. I mean, he didn't have it. You look, you look back at his round, and it just like, I mean, when the when the round started yesterday, I I thought he was gonna get to like 14 under. Like he just looked the first three holes, like stress free, stress-free par on one, sticks it to four feet on two, and you're just like, so he gets to 11, and you're like,

Scott Kitun (10:53.985)

didn't happen.

Scott Kitun (11:08.471)

Look good.

Venmo Joe (11:16.988)

I don't know. If Sam Burns has battle tested, he's been here. It just seemed like that was going to be the storyline. I think everyone was going to be okay with that. And then it just that that's what like major championship golf on Sunday. That's why it's the best, man. It's unscripted chaos for guys like us. And like, if if you're sitting there after whole three, you're like, this is probably going to be a little bit of a snoozer. Like Burns is just.

Scott Kitun (11:25.877)

I surely was.

Venmo Joe (11:43.839)

You know, he's already doing damage. He's got a two, three stroke lead. And then the bogeys just happen, right? Like he makes a mess out of hole five, which was the easiest hole all week, right? It was that drivable par four. He put himself in a bad spot. He goes over the green. Like it just it turned into a disaster, right? And it's like all of a sudden you're looking at it where he's in cruise control. He's gonna birdie hole five and he's gonna be off to the races. Like,

That completely that completely derailed him. And he he put himself in like good spots in the back nine to to make some burn, but they were all like fifteen, twenty footers. And they just, for whatever reason on these Sundays for burns, like it seems like he can't miss until it's fucking Sunday on the back nine. And then he can't buy a putt. It's cr it it's wild.

Scott Kitun (12:30.187)

Yep. And the funniest thing is he doesn't blow it he's so like his two losses where there that he should win are so weird because usually you're used to a guy like blowing it. And I would argue that his bogeys were fucking incr world class saves. That could have been way worse. Both of those could have been way worse. The one where he's like in the shit, hits it into the shit again.

Venmo Joe (12:51.251)

Yeah.

Scott Kitun (12:57.803)

And he's getting out of the green, he chips it to like a foot, the one you text me about, it could have easily been a double bogey. Easily.

Venmo Joe (13:01.982)

That that would that was insane. And then he also had that he had a massive par save, I think, on eleven where he was completely out of position. Yeah, it may makes a big putt. Like, I don't know. It th his time is gonna come.

Scott Kitun (13:10.529)

Yeah, he had a fifteen footer or whatever, he made that one too.

He just it doesn't of course it will, but he doesn't the his game, it's just funny to watch because usually guys don't win and they lose on Sunday because they just don't get it done. They just, you know, they make mistakes, they they get a blow-up hole, they can't make putts to the point where like it costs them. It's not like they got the yips and you see the younger Scotty's putt where he misses it from four or five feet, and you're like, shit, he lost it that way. It's a Sam Burns loses on accumulation.

Venmo Joe (13:38.173)

Yeah.

Scott Kitun (13:42.412)

He makes putts that no one else makes all year, like all week long. And then it's not that he doesn't make the putts everyone makes because he makes those putts. He just doesn't make some of the putts that he made earlier in the week. The putts that no one else makes. He just did it, he just doesn't make them then. And it's like, you know, and

Venmo Joe (13:54.684)

That's a good way that's yeah, that's a good way to put it.

I mean, and what's crazy, I'm I'm looking at his scorecard from yesterday just to get a refresher. I mean, he had one birdie yesterday. That's crazy. Like he had he had twelve straight pars from seven on, right? And like I said, he put himself in position to you know, I think the closest birdie putt he had was like fifteen feet, right? So it's just like it it

Scott Kitun (14:20.159)

I was gonna say that's the part that was different yesterday for him versus I mean obviously when he shot the 62, everything is going close. But like the other days, he at least was I think he had four or five birdies on the second day. And like on the other days, he is within 15 and inside, and it felt like every time I looked up on the screen, it was like 22 feet, 26 feet, 35 feet, uphill, downhill, like there just wasn't enough.

Of those like hey, he's a hundred and sixty seven out and he puts a fucking dart and it lands and rolls up and he's got four feet and it's just a makeup make a birdie. He didn't have any of those. And you can't win with that, I don't.

Venmo Joe (14:54.738)

Five feet. Yeah. Yeah. Ex ex exactly. Yep.

Yeah, but that was good. yeah, it was a great Sunday. I thought like I to go back to Cam Young, like I do feel for him a little bit like but kind of what you were saying, I I think him winning, it wouldn't have felt as as like satisfying, at least for the viewer. I'm sure he wouldn't have cared how he got it, but like, yeah, two plus hours, right? So like part of I think winning that major is like

Scott Kitun (15:23.083)

No, no, he was done for two hours.

Venmo Joe (15:31.112)

Being in that pressure cooker in the last group or second to last group where it's like you're expected Yeah.

Scott Kitun (15:35.049)

Standing on the green at eighteen and having everyone clap and know you won. You can't back into it. And that's not saying he didn't, because he went and got it on Sunday, but you can't post a score and then it falls back to you.

Venmo Joe (15:39.429)

Yeah, like you cannot back into it. No, he did, but it's like yeah, and like the conditions were conditions were easier when he went out and shot. And like listen, that that is what it is, right? That's how it, that's how it happens sometimes. He's still, you know, he was the he was the lowest score in the clubhouse up until the last group, right? So it was right there for him. But I do I'm at like in hindsight, I'm happy that that's not where he gets his first major.

Scott Kitun (15:48.94)

Yes.

Venmo Joe (16:07.558)

And again, I'm sure he would have taken it and been fucking happy, but like I don't know. I just I see him as a guy that's gonna go out there and get it in the last group or second to last group in a major. And this, you know, the time wasn't the time wasn't right for him. And I think if you're looking, if you were a Cam Young backer, one, I think you're happy that you had a sweat and he he seemed to, you know, come back to his earlier form that we saw at the players and at Durell. He looks good again.

Scott Kitun (16:07.905)

Yeah. Yes, as would I.

Scott Kitun (16:31.905)

Yeah, he looks good again.

Venmo Joe (16:36.232)

But if you're looking at like, man, where did it go wrong for Cam? Like, dude, he was in contention going into Saturday. He was six under. He shoots three over on Saturday. Like his back nine on Saturday, I don't know how much of that you tracked or caught. Like, he played terrible on that back nine on Saturday. And like that would be where I would look and say, hey, that like it's not, hey, I I didn't lose. I didn't lose because I bogeied 18. I lost because I, you know, shot a 40 on the back nine on Saturday.

Right. And I I put myself a little bit too far back. And yeah, I shot a sixty, sixty-four and it was almost good enough. But like that's that's where I would look and say, hey, what happened? It just seemed like he l he lost a little bit of his edge and like focus on that back nine. And you know, whatever he did Saturday night, it worked. But yeah, that that to me were if I'm a if I'm a church, yeah, God fearing man.

Scott Kitun (17:28.173)

Church on Sunday morning. It was church on Sunday morning he went.

Venmo Joe (17:32.422)

And then like, you know, I know he b a lot of people were pointing out that he bogeied eighteen and he lost by a shot, but like, dude, at that but it there was a tremendous that was that that should have been a double, right? but like I respect

Scott Kitun (17:37.527)

That was a tremendous save, also. That boogie was fucking insane. And he shot at 64. So, like, what are we talking about here? There's no that number is still imaginary up until then.

Venmo Joe (17:46.417)

And I and I respect how I I respect how he went about that 'cause like you can't assume 'cause he was ten under on the on the eighteenth T, but like everyone else had three hours or two hours to play. The leaders had two two plus hours to play. There was so much more golf. Like he wasn't like, Hey, I just I'm gonna try to play for par and like I'm gonna keep it at ten under. Like he was super he was super aggressive off the T and then he was super aggressive on that second bunker shot.

Scott Kitun (18:08.587)

No, he needs as many numbers you can get.

Venmo Joe (18:15.25)

He tried to do what Ryan Fox did on Saturday, right? Where he like got really aggressive out of that fairway bunker on 18 and like barely cleared it and got it to the green. and Cam Young clipped it, right? But he was aggressive. He went after it, which I really respect. And then, you know, he almost holed out that bunker shot for for Parr, right? Like, I mean, he was that close. It it looked almost exactly like Burns' hole out on 18 on Friday. Like the exact like rollout, it just it missed the cup.

But I much r much respect to him.

Scott Kitun (18:45.867)

No, I I mean, if he would have gone out, I agree with y I totally and I'd love to see that he's back in form. If he would have holed out and won it, that's a moment. I don't know. I'm always go back to storylines because it's always like when someone wins, you remember what it was, what the thing was. Five birdies and two gloves for Aaron Rye. That's what I'll remember. Like to see him hold it out would have been a moment. I agree with you, you know, the the Saturday tournament back nine, he kinda blew it, but

Venmo Joe (19:05.299)

Ha ha.

Scott Kitun (19:13.887)

If he would have gone, and not that 64 is a bad number by any search, but if he goes out and he shoots like 62 and he just takes that shit down, it's like, all right, you could be sitting in the clubhouse all fucking day for all I care. Like everyone's got to come to you. It's the fact that he left it on a number that they have to come back to. And if you win that way, that's the only reason it feels like a half a half win. Honestly, I know anyone would take it. I think even he would prefer to not win it that way. You know, similar to the to Hovlin winning and saying, I didn't want to win, I know I don't want to win that one with Scheffler.

Blows the putt the playoff. Like you you want to win competitive, and I can tell Cam Young is is a competitor. The other things I want to talk about for this turn before we move on, in general, I thought it was it was all good. I I don't know if you heard this. Did you know Tommy Fleetwood's from from there? Did you know he he he and his caddy they he has a parking spot. Did you know? So if you ever go there, don't don't park in Tommy's spot. He and his caddy they

Venmo Joe (19:43.89)

Yeah.

Venmo Joe (19:59.42)

Ha did.

Venmo Joe (20:04.094)

my god. Yeah they got how much did they beat that into us? Good God. I mean

Scott Kitun (20:13.459)

You know, the pressure that this guy's feeling, it's not the major, it's not that he's never won a PGA tournament other than the FedEx Cup tournament. It's that he's playing in his hometown with guys that when he played here as a as a wee lad weren't even fucking born. What are you talking about? It was so stupid. I was so like I was

Venmo Joe (20:16.264)

Yeah.

Venmo Joe (20:31.728)

I mean they were just they were trying to will him into contention and it just like I mean, dude, poor Tommy Lat, like

Scott Kitun (20:36.151)

Fuck. I switched over to the open app, as you had suggested to me, to get away from it. Mike Tariko, I don't like, I don't know what the hell that was. And also, and just since I'm rant ranting about it, and we we keep talking about the masters, the major coverage, the media's news coverage of the majors this year has been fucking terrible. You started off the year in our first episode with Rory McAroy making a putt, and all I saw was his rear end. I've got

Venmo Joe (20:42.75)

yeah. Yeah.

Venmo Joe (20:58.846)

Great.

Venmo Joe (21:04.414)

Well, and they lost the ball they lost Cam Young and Rory's ball twice on eighteen, right? Like it's yeah, it's been bad. It's been bad.

Scott Kitun (21:09.111)

Correct. They shoved Scheffler down our throats for the PGA. It was just he's gonna he's gonna come back. He's gonna come back. It was like never fucking happened. Like this was we not that he was in contention, it's like the biggest laugh of a of a top 10 back in ever, Russell Henley. But I never saw a shot of that. Apparently, Adam Scott had himself a fucking day, saw zero shots of that. Tom Kite disappeared on Saturday, or sorry, Friday.

Venmo Joe (21:14.375)

Yep.

Scott Kitun (21:38.028)

And I literally didn't know what happened. He was in good position and then all of a sudden he was gone. I did get to spend forty-five fucking minutes watching Bryson. not Tom Kite. Tom Kim. Same thing, Tom Kim. Tom Kite disappeared a long time ago. Much longer ago. Never saw it. Tom Kim. He was playing well. He was like negative three. And then he just disappeared. It what? Whoa.

Venmo Joe (21:44.816)

Wait, wait, Tom Kite Tom Kite.

Venmo Joe (21:57.151)

That was that was dis that was disappointing, wasn't it? A lot of a lot of our a lot of our guys that we we loved just man didn't have it. Did not have it.

Scott Kitun (22:06.945)

They didn't this fit we can talk about Fitzpatrick. I just feel like everyone talked about it. He came out and just didn't have any game. I just I want to finish my my rant here on on the media part. I I felt like I just missed half the tournament. Like we spent I don't even care about the the Bryson thing. Okay, like we don't even I could give you my opinion, it doesn't matter. What I care more about forty five minutes. What are we doing?

Venmo Joe (22:17.074)

Yeah, yeah.

Venmo Joe (22:25.084)

Yeah.

Venmo Joe (22:30.008)

dude, it was so inner it was so entertaining.

Scott Kitun (22:34.637)

Forty five minutes of just back and fucking forth.

Venmo Joe (22:35.144)

So I don't well here's the thing. If you're going to show that, mic him up. Like, cause we're seeing all the theatrics of yeah, well, yeah, dude, did take his ball home and like, yeah, take his ball and go home. I will say, I don't know, you ever like I I I just knew we were in in store for something crazy. Like as soon as they were finishing on 18 with a different group.

Scott Kitun (22:42.785)

Right. I did see him lip that he wasn't gonna come back tomorrow to play. Boo fucking who.

Scott Kitun (22:53.505)

See on YouTube, Bryce.

Venmo Joe (23:04.668)

And they kept going to Bryson think, it's something weird's going on with Bryson. Like, he just came out of the scoring tent. He looks frustrated. He's got a wedge with him. And I'm like, boy, buckle up. Get your popcorn ready. I'm like, there's something that's going on, right? From like a rules violation standpoint. I can't wait to see what it is. And I mean, it took it took it took the internet by store, man. Like everyone was tuned in 40 minutes after the golf ended, just watching Bryson and like.

the the head of the RNA rules official just like go back and forth and like Bryson was being, you know, as as Rory said, very performative and he was being animated. But like, yeah, it it it was it was a lot. I was interested to see like it was way too much. I was interested in like it's funny how you know in golf I feel like you never really get anyone's like true unfiltered opinion and

Scott Kitun (23:50.133)

It was way too much.

Venmo Joe (24:02.866)

Bryson for whatever reason seems to Bryson seems to bring that out in people where like he's just so polarizing that like Rory couldn't help himself and like yeah. Yeah, which like for a golfer to say that is like the equivalent of you and I saying, I hate that fucking douchebag, right? Like that's the equivalent of what he said. Like golfers never really talk shit on another golfer except Rory. And like, I mean, dude, Rory, Rory is starting to be hated.

Scott Kitun (24:03.233)

Rory gave it that to you.

Scott Kitun (24:11.829)

Not particularly fond of him.

Venmo Joe (24:31.026)

by the masses, right? Like I he is like to call like for for Rory to call someone else performative is him, is him, is him.

Scott Kitun (24:32.129)

Yeah. He's a dick.

Everything he called out on Bryson is himself. Yeah, like, yeah. He's I I guess my my thing in there is here's the problem. It this shit is so obvious. It was too obvious. And I know that not everyone's a a nut golfer and like can played competitive and all this other stuff. But if you did, this was and like the guys at Fried Egg, kudos to them for always nailing this. Andy Johnson called it out in eight seconds. What he did.

Whether or not they decide to penalize him or not is a is a different topic. It's a known fact. You're given the rules you know when you walk in to avoid. The whole point, all you have to do to avoid this situation, I don't even give a shit if you cheated. Frankly, if I were in your position, I'd do the same thing. I would cheat and try to give myself some room. And fuck you. If you caught me, you call it. You get the strokes, and if not, I get away with it and I get a better shot and I win the tournament. So like I don't even care. You walk in, you avoid the entire area until it's time to tee off. If you want to step around and get shots and crush shit.

You do it clearly away from your ball. That's every that's a little kid's J IJGA local 13-year-old kid tournament. If you're in the shit off the beaten path, you do all your stuff around, then you step in and you hit. He didn't do that. He walked around, he fucking stood in front of it and behind it. If the penalty, if intention notwithstanding, if they want to walk in and go, here's the thing: if you wanted to avoid a penalty, stay out of the shit. You didn't. So we're assessing a penalty. End of story.

Venmo Joe (25:50.13)

Yeah, I mean he

Scott Kitun (26:01.803)

You can argue, we can cover it, whatever. The other part of this that I thought was also ridiculous was, and this was said like three times by the commentators, this the official scoring shows two strokes off on Bryson's score. They've already pulled it back. But our scoring shows it at seven or whatever it was. Your scoring doesn't fucking matter. You can change it anytime you want.

Venmo Joe (26:04.446)

Good.

Venmo Joe (26:23.046)

Yeah, it was seven. Yeah, seven to five. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Scott Kitun (26:27.777)

The official scoring already did it. The decision's in, they're just arbitrating and talking. You just manufactured this whole thing. That thing was like 45 minutes. The decision was five minutes. The guys came out, they walked, they looked, they watched the replay. They took two strokes off right on the spot and they said, that's the deal. He bitched and moaned for 40 minutes and you covered it. And that to me was the part where it's like, all right, enough of this shit. And it just that to me certainly didn't ruin the tournament. I'll take more golf, but it annoyed me. Because it was obvious.

Venmo Joe (26:44.274)

You're right. Yeah.

Venmo Joe (26:49.854)

Fair, fair.

Well, and I and then like, you know, yeah, it annoyed me too because it it was obvious. And then I agree with everything you said. Like I think he was you he left himself open for that, right? Like whether or not you want to argue that other players do that, whatever, like listen, when you're one of the top like five personalities on tour, guess what? All your shots are gonna get filmed. That's just what it is. So like for you to come out and be like, well, I'm being judged differently, it's like, well, no shit you are, but like

Scott Kitun (27:15.852)

Yeah.

Venmo Joe (27:21.724)

Your bank account says you should be judged differently, right? So, like you want to give back that money that made like like you're a top five guy, right? Scotty, you, Rory, you guys are gonna be followed and scrutinized in a different way than everyone else. That's just that's just what it is, right? So like you can there was so much there was damning video evidence, right? Where he was sloppy around there. And I don't really care about the yeah, I don't care, yeah.

Scott Kitun (27:24.055)

Right.

Scott Kitun (27:43.925)

Where he's high stepping, I saw his knee come up. He was it's like

Venmo Joe (27:48.007)

Right when right when he right when he got in there, he that was a penalty. He stopped around right when right and then and then right before he hit it, he backed up and he stepped even further. Right. Like it is what it is. You know, dude, tay like if Ryan Fox would have done that going back to him, he wouldn't there would have been no arguing. He would have never even left the scoring tent. He would have been like, let me see the video evidence. You know what? You're right. Two stroke penalty. Let me let me let me sign my let me sign my scorecard, right?

Scott Kitun (27:51.999)

Super obvious, yeah.

Scott Kitun (27:58.07)

Yeah, you wanna cross the ball.

Scott Kitun (28:10.902)

yeah, that's me high stepping on it. I wanna go back out and show you. Yeah.

Venmo Joe (28:17.308)

Well, so what was it what was very annoying about that was one, it it allowed the RNA allowed the tournament to get held hostage by Bryson, right? Where, you know what, dude? If you really want to like you're three at that point in time with the two stroke penalty, he was three strokes back of the leader, right? And the leader was Lucas Herbert, who you knew was gonna come back. So really, in all reality, you were one stroke out, right? Because you were, you know, Lucas Herbert wasn't a threat.

Scott Kitun (28:25.557)

Yeah, yes.

Venmo Joe (28:45.906)

You have 36 holes of golf. Like, you're really gonna threaten that you're not gonna play? Like, it was just dumb. It was in it, it was just not genuine. It was never gonna happen. and it just made it, it was just the Bryson show, right? It just made it all about him. And then he goes to the range and he's beating golf balls into the into the fucking British night and offering snacks to, you know, our boy KVV from Friday and those guys. It's just like, dude, like.

You suck, man. Go hire your PR guy again because if you are left to be Bryson on your own with no one telling you and curating your personality, no one's gonna like you. You're good, you're now you're we're back, we're fully back into like all the way back to just him being as unlikable as possible. And throw Rory and throw Rory in there.

Scott Kitun (29:29.759)

We're all the way back to this

Scott Kitun (29:36.162)

That dude will go down as one of the d I was just gonna say that golf, the one I've reluctantly called myself a golfer my entire life. It is only this podcast and friendship with you that I now embrace being a golfer. Golf is a sport that is filled with pricks. I have never seen more dickheads per fucking hundred than at a golf course. And like those two guys would be the worst hangs. They are the the elite of

Venmo Joe (29:52.478)

Thousand percent.

Venmo Joe (29:58.43)

Ha ha ha ha.

Scott Kitun (30:04.373)

Jesus Christ, please don't be in my foursome. And that's saying two of the best golfers in the history of the world and it just they're so unlikable to put a bow on the whole thing. It it's just if you saw the the lie he had, if he step if he doesn't step in front of it, he's gonna make a bogey no matter what. There's no way out of there. He's he's gotta punch out and go to the side. So it's really only a one stroke penalty, which made me even more pissed. Because he's doing all this for a two stroke penalty when he never would have even been able to hit the fucking shot. Okay, so like

Venmo Joe (30:07.442)

Yeah.

Venmo Joe (30:33.308)

Yeah. Yeah. Well, it just it it was just d like, listen, he could have taken 'cause he actually bogeied that hole, even like so that yeah, so he he would t thousand percent. You're right. You're right. I don't know. He should have just taken his medicine, played it like on like hindsight's twenty twenty, take that as an unplayable and move the fuck on, right? And and do your double bogey and that's it, right? But you know, instead he you know, he made the tournament about him and

Scott Kitun (30:34.848)

It it just

Scott Kitun (30:40.565)

I know he would have had a triple just like he did on Sunday.

Scott Kitun (30:54.581)

Right. Right.

Venmo Joe (31:03.37)

he wasn't good enough on the weekend, right? Like, I you know, thank God he made a cut. I mean, Sunday was pretty disastrous for him, right? Like the the 11th, the triple on 11 was was about as bad as it it gets. but listen, I don't like Bryson, but he he moves the needle. I always like him involved in a major. I don't want to see him win another major, but I like him being involved, it makes the sport more interesting.

Scott Kitun (31:07.253)

Yeah, he made a run and then he fell off.

Scott Kitun (31:12.523)

Yeah. the triple didn't know.

Scott Kitun (31:30.7)

Me too.

Venmo Joe (31:32.093)

It makes the product more interesting. you know, it it it it's it's good stuff. The other thing, and I don't know if I'm sure it's come out, but like, you know, the Bryson defenders are the bots that he pays on on X, the everything app. Everything happens on X. but like what yeah, what I was gonna say though is that like the the Bryson defenders like, well, you know, poor Bryson, he got he got this penalty and it wasn't deserved, and then

Scott Kitun (31:45.941)

Yeah. Scotty defended him. Scotty defended him.

Venmo Joe (31:59.731)

They were correlating it to like the drop that Scheffler got on 17. And I'm like, listen, that that's the rules of golf. You don't need to agree with them, but like I think the the TIO rules are insane, right? Like, cause if you and I are gol

Scott Kitun (32:13.729)

I mean didn't Smalley have a putt on the green after he put it in the water? Or who was that? No, who's the who was the dude? Who is the guy that No, yeah, this is when Goder up won. What not Smalley, who's the other dude? that just Ben Cone. Yeah, Ben Cohn, right? Didn't he put it in the water and then he ended up getting to putt yeah, Coles. Then he gets he gets to putt off the green, remember? They did he got to move the ball one

Venmo Joe (32:19.004)

Yeah, it's just

Venmo Joe (32:30.088)

When Godarp won a John Deere? yeah, yeah, yeah. Ben, yeah, yeah, yeah. Coles, Coles.

Venmo Joe (32:39.996)

Yeah, but at least that was a penalty, right? Like the Scotty thing, like they're yeah, they're absurd. Yeah. I just I just think it I just think it's yeah, we you gotta follow. I the TIO rules, right? you know, to quote Tron Carter, right? Tron Carter hates all of that stuff, right? But it is true. Like if you and I were playing Royal Burkdale and obviously there's no infrastructure in place, that second shot that Scotty hits, you and I are making a ten.

Scott Kitun (32:42.795)

No, he had a penalty, but like these rules, sometimes the penalty works in your favor and sometimes they work against you. The whole point of this is that we follow them.

Scott Kitun (33:10.369)

Yeah, yeah. Yeah.

Venmo Joe (33:10.524)

Because he hit it a mile left. And someone saw it go in a bush, but because it's in that area that's rule TIO, it's a drop like in a place where he got up and down for Birdie. And it's like, dude, like he hit he hit two bad shots, right? He hit a bad like the drive that he thought was perfect, but it was slicing. At the end of the day, that was a bad drive. It put himself in a terrible position. And then he tried to play hero ball because he needed to, because he was seven under.

And he knew he needed to make at least a birdie, but he was going for broke, going for Eagle. He hits the ball fucking a mile left and still birdies that hole. Like, dude, that that should have been a fucking six. Bare minimum, a six on that.

But yeah, dude, we talked about listen, we talked about it last week. I I was not surprised that Scotty didn't win, right? We we pegged that. We're like he it's just there's something that's missing. And this week what was very clearly missing is the proximity got better. His putting was atrocious.

Scott Kitun (33:55.485)

Ugh.

Scott Kitun (34:11.775)

Yep. Mm-hmm. He's just a little behind. Like enough he's enough that he is a top five lock and he could win anything and he he gave it a run on Sunday, but he's just a little behind. He's he is susceptible to a random ass guy coming in and winning. And that's something that you never would have thought. Like like in this is this is what a lot of tournaments are like.

Venmo Joe (34:31.846)

And now and now and now he's and now he's let that and now he's let that happen at every major this year, right? Like ha you know.

Scott Kitun (34:39.425)

I mean it's it's every tournament this year, frankly. It's not just every major. It's been almost every tournament except for the one that he won. And I would say if you if you were to look historically, with the exception of Tiger, and maybe when like when he had like Brooks and Rory and and and Speath kinda all in their like young guns run, where like there's like three or four guys who all are coming at it hard, most of the time anyone couldn't win on any given week. It's like if if the guy who's the best plays the best, game over.

Venmo Joe (34:43.293)

Yeah.

Scott Kitun (35:09.769)

If the guy who's the best doesn't quite play the best every day, then kind of anyone can take it. And you've seen it repeatedly that if you're gonna be, if you're gonna leave a couple strokes, then this can happen. And Cam Young is the example of that. Like for his real his run, he stepped up and took each of them. Wyndham Clark did the same thing. He stepped up and took what was his. we had the period of Matt Fitzpatrick where he was stepping up and taking what's his. He was playing the best on all cylinders. And you gotta be basically T to green.

Thursday to Sunday, basically you need to be on generally within the pace, or you are susceptible to someone else coming in and sneaking it. And that's happened to Scotty all season long. He had bad Thursdays for a while, then it was bad approaches for a while, then it was missing putts for then, you know, it's just he hasn't had everything firing. And with that, the competition now is good enough that that's that's just not gonna not gonna get it done.

Venmo Joe (35:57.234)

Yeah.

Venmo Joe (36:00.667)

And but I like honestly, I would take twenty twenty-six way over twenty twenty-four or twenty twenty five, right? When he's just winning like last year was I think Rory and Scotty won fifty percent of like the major events, right? Like, I mean they they got they had three of the four majors between them and then Scotty was winning every fucking signature event. It just I don't know. I don't I I love greatness, but like for what you and I love to do, which is to make money on golf.

Like Scotty didn't really allow us to do that la the last two years, right? So like now it's now we're in a spot where it's like, hey, he most likely is not gonna win a golf tournament, and you can find a guy that's got a ton of value. And you know, your and I's goal now is how do we find a Ryan Fox who on you sent me that tweet yesterday that someone in round one bet him live at 2000 to one. Like,

Scott Kitun (36:33.823)

No, he was

Scott Kitun (36:54.433)

Yeah, his mom.

His mom.

Venmo Joe (36:58.11)

How do you even find that? Like how are like how was he even on like anyone's radar at that point? Like that is so impressive to me. and even going into the weekend, you could have gotten him at 500 to one. Like it just that's the shit you and I live for, right? Like when that value exists and that value actually turns into someone winning, like that's out there, it's gonna continue to be out there, and we're gonna do our best to to identify those those prospects.

Scott Kitun (37:28.499)

yeah, that's the goal of the show and the goal of of all of my my dreams of making money just doing this. I probably lose my kids' golf gear sponsorship next when I say I I enjoy watching Scotty and the last couple years is great and you see a guy who's so consistently good. But if I'm gonna have a runaway winner, I I want Tiger. I want a guy who's gonna step on your throat and leave with your fucking girl. That I can watch. Michael Jordan style. Scotty, I love his game.

Venmo Joe (37:54.066)

Yeah.

Scott Kitun (37:56.354)

But he's just not the personality type that makes it fun when you win everything. It's like, ho hum, who's taking second this week? It's just different. And and yeah.

Venmo Joe (37:56.86)

Yeah.

Venmo Joe (38:01.129)

Yeah. I do I do agree with that. I do like that we've seen him be a little bit more fiery this year and like a little bit more opinionated, right? Yeah, but like I like that we're seeing yeah, but if you but the counter to that, Scott, is that if he was winning, we wouldn't be seeing this personality, right? So like part of this is like you just

Scott Kitun (38:09.153)

Yeah, definitely. But he doesn't win, so that's the problem.

Scott Kitun (38:21.729)

Maybe he picked it up when he was in jail for that four hours. He got it he got like a fucking prison tat on his rib cage and now he's just BA.

Venmo Joe (38:30.578)

You just never know what reaction you're like, 'cause he was just so stoic for so long. And now all of a sudden, right? Like he had the incident with Ted Scott a month or two ago where he blamed him for his fucking putting a ball in the water out of part three and then he sna like he lost his mind on seventeen about the drive and you know, he sounded like you and I. He's like, What why is my why is my ball going there? Like yeah, he's

Scott Kitun (38:49.645)

Yeah, it was funny. Yeah. Why is that ball going right? But it's like that, that just is not like the old like and again, this is like Tom Brady shit. It's why sometimes he got tired with the Patriots. Now Tom Brady's acting like a fucking idiot. That's a whole different podcast. But but when he was winning, he was so quiet. And it was just whatever to where like if you forget about the Boston thing, it just got like boring. And I still love the greatness and and I can appreciate that.

Venmo Joe (39:07.327)

he's one of the strangest dudes of all time.

Scott Kitun (39:18.967)

But when I see guys who are just dominant and flashy, at least if you're gonna take all the the the the suspense away from the game, you're gonna replace it with entertainment. I'm gonna kick your ass and I'm gonna rub your fucking face in it. That I can I can get on board with, or you become the villain. And I'm also now I'm engaged the same way. That was the one thing Scotty didn't do. We talked about that when you came as a guest on the previous podcast. We talked about how it was just not as an entertaining. I love seeing all these dudes.

Venmo Joe (39:46.076)

Yeah.

Scott Kitun (39:48.511)

And we may never see Ryan Fox in a position like this ever again. Or maybe, you know, he'll become the new blocky and he gets rid of that fucking guy. Either way, I'm good with it.

Venmo Joe (39:58.574)

I would I I would welcome Ryan Fox contending in more tournaments, man. Like I I like that. I like that dude.

Scott Kitun (40:03.807)

I want to see that that dragging left foot for the next couple of years. That swinging is just incredible.

Venmo Joe (40:08.444)

Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, we covered this open, but I want to get to to your to your golf tournament, your open championship this weekend, a three one two invitational. Why don't you why don't you run it down for us?

Scott Kitun (40:16.255)

I had a little open myself.

Scott Kitun (40:23.115)

Yeah, a shout out to to Noel Duckworth for putting this on. It the first, first one of the year. a little inspiration from kind of the the internet open and and all of these sort of different online golf creator golf adventure scene make it an IRL. this was all of Chicago's kind of golf creators, and we launched this podcast and was kind enough to invite me to come play in this thing. It was a ton of fun. We had sponsors that did all kinds of stuff. There's a

One of the guys you know, a couple of these guys, Rad Golf, who I guess date your boy Dave plays in it every year. Arlington Heights guys. so they sponsored one of the holes. We had to play the hole like a minute or less. you know, that was just a lot of fun because like you're not used to walking up, hitting the ball, and having someone else ready to go and hit an approach and then someone else ready to putt it. so that was kind of cool. Caddy Rap came. This to me was the highlight of the event. Like it was a scramble setup, eight holes.

Venmo Joe (40:57.323)

yeah.

Venmo Joe (41:01.17)

Yeah.

Scott Kitun (41:21.869)

Plus the ninth hole, which is rad golf, and you had to run the hole. So we shot five under and eight holes. We lost by one. It was pretty good. We lost by one. I was a very nice and you know, gave gave the the bread to the guy and the kudos and said, you know, great job playing. Then I watched the clips because these are all creators, right? So everything was filmed. Like there's just videos, galore. If you followed me on Instagram, it was probably made you want to throw up. It was just shot after shot after shot of a shot.

Venmo Joe (41:25.85)

Love that. Holy shit.

Scott Kitun (41:51.82)

But I saw some of the guys swings that I hadn't seen, the the team that won, and immediately was kinda like, wait, what the fuck? I'm not saying that they didn't shoot negative six because I saw them make an eagle putt. Not saying, I'm just saying that there's some

Venmo Joe (42:04.7)

You're ju you're just w you're just wondering how they got to minus six with with some of the aesthetics that you were seeing.

Scott Kitun (42:08.085)

I'm wondering because like we we missed, yeah. We missed a couple of putts that we missed an Eagle putt about 20. We missed a Birdie putt from like eight, eight or nine feet. There was two guys, like everyone on our team contributed. The the one dude, Jin, who's awesome, great dude, filmed everything, himself admitted, like working on his game, trying to become a good golf. Like he's a big fan of golf, covering it. Now he's trying become good at golf. So he's not expecting to go out and shoot the lights out. He didn't contribute as he would tell you this, didn't contribute the entire round.

last hole rolls in a thirty five foot birdie when we all had missed. So like he contributes there and all is good. the rest of us we just literally I don't know, we couldn't make the story of my life, we couldn't make putts, but I look at like me and Hamill and a couple of the guys and I feel like our game and our skills and our swings are too good. And then I watch the dudes who beat us by one and I'm looking at their swings and I'm like, this shit's everywhere. Like I I don't I don't know. Maybe we just didn't make enough putts.

Venmo Joe (43:07.048)

So are they gonna are they are they gonna actually like release something on YouTube like with like

Scott Kitun (43:07.702)

So so they won.

Scott Kitun (43:11.829)

yeah, there'll be reels, galore, they've filmed all this. There was drones out there. I shared little bits and pieces from the day. There'll be a big reel that I'll be sharing in a little bit from the whole round. They took footage of everything. Every it was really cool. I mean, this is like how creators would play golf. I guess it would either drive you fucking nuts or you think it's cool. I thought it was cool. Every single foursome had a caddy, basically, who was just in their cart shooting film. And everyone is a creator anyway.

So, like they were all like, there was this one dude Jin playing with us at a tripod, and he set up on everything, I mean took him two seconds, he whipped out, boom, and all of us are hitting. One dude walks up behind me on a part three and drops a drone in front of me, and it's just flying, buzzing around me within like a five feet circle while I hit. Somehow I managed to flush the thing. I thought I'd skull it or or hit the drone out of the air or something. I I got some laughs from, you know, these are all professional creators.

Venmo Joe (44:03.592)

Ha ha ha.

Scott Kitun (44:09.075)

I am a creator in the sense that I've, you know, podcast newsletters sold these things. We have this show, but I'm not very professional about anything in my life. So these dudes all have all this gear, right? And I'm on the on the on the on the driving range hitting balls, and they walk up and like, man, do you want me to take some shots of you or whatever? And I was like, I'm shooting now. And they're like, where? And they look down, and I there's a fresh, freshly drank 16-ounce.

Venmo Joe (44:20.636)

Yeah.

Scott Kitun (44:37.767)

Formerly 16 ounce Ultra, now empty, with two golf balls from the range on the bottom of it and my phone resting and on top of them to balance. And it's it's taken the shots of me hitting straight into it to the side behind me. The whole thing, all it was, is I took a 16-ounce Ultra cup and threw some balls in it for weight and threw my phone in it and just hit record. And I'm not gonna lie to you, my videos are better. They got drones and shit. The the drone one's the cool one.

Venmo Joe (44:46.172)

Ha ha ha

Venmo Joe (44:57.551)

Love that. Love that ingenuity right there.

Scott Kitun (45:05.747)

All the other ones at the tripods, it just looks like two production. The the cup, like you can smell the the micelob ultra on my videos, I'll tell you that. So everyone saw it, they laughed, people were talking about it. Like literally, I heard it like five room people. Like, are you the guy who was on the range hitting balls out of an ultra can? I was like, I am, in fact. Yes, sir. overall, it was really fun. Sponsors were great. The highlight though was Caddy Rap was the sponsor for the night hole.

Venmo Joe (45:10.216)

Yeah.

Venmo Joe (45:14.748)

Ha ha ha.

Venmo Joe (45:24.432)

Yeah, like yes, sir, that's me.

Venmo Joe (45:32.179)

Yeah.

Scott Kitun (45:35.436)

So at the end of the round, we all had drinks and stuff. We go out on the 10th hole. You know this course very well, Mount Prospect Golf Club. We go out on, I believe it's 10, right? That's the part three. And it's playing like, so it's playing like 125, 122, whatever it was. a little uphill, but it's also like now 10 o'clock at night. So it's totally dark. We got the lights, you know, lights set up on the DJ playing.

Venmo Joe (45:47.1)

Yeah, it is.

Venmo Joe (45:53.148)

Yeah, it's a short it's a short hole.

Venmo Joe (45:59.764)

Yeah.

And I'm and I'm assuming there was more Michelob ultras consumed.

Scott Kitun (46:06.241)

yeah. Yeah. It was I was rolling. And there's forty so there's thirty-two people in the invitation, I believe, that actually play it. Forty people now because all the everyone who ran the event got in it. So 40, 45 people are now standing on the T-box and everyone's gonna hit a shot, not at the same time, one at a time, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. Everyone's gonna hit a shot on the green at the same time. They call it the stampede. And everyone's gotta walk all the way up and you're just gonna kind of play, chip it on, hit it on the sand, putt, putt, putt, putt, putt, and report your score.

And then you're gonna make a cut and you're gonna go do it again and again and again until a winner. So we do it. I pulled out fifty two, thankful to my mirrors. I know I I can hit them in any darkness, it does not matter. I don't even need to see. That's just money.

Venmo Joe (46:37.338)

Elimination from there.

Venmo Joe (46:50.31)

yeah, so how was that so like how did you get so like you had to pick blindly the club or how did that work? Or

Scott Kitun (46:57.493)

Yeah, so that was a they they altered it. Originally you were supposed to pick a club. They had to to put the caddy wrap on it, which is like the it's basically like putting Christmas wrapping paper on your shaft. It kind of makes the shaft of the club look cool if you want, that's their business. Which is actually kind of cool if you like to dress up your clubs. I'm not a dress up the clubs guy, but there's a lot of people out there. Originally you gave them clubs before the round, but then they ended up just saying, Hey, why don't we all just pick whatever clubs you need because

People didn't know what the distance was, and there was guys out there with like driver only and putters, and they couldn't wrap some of the putters. So it ended up just being pick a club and then you can bring your putter. And so we ended up doing that. I went with the 52 degree for me, 124, 125 is like the dialed number. I put the first one 12 feet, or no, first one was like 20 feet, two putt, report apart. Mind you, while I'm putting, there's fucking 30 balls.

Venmo Joe (47:54.812)

Yeah, chaos.

Scott Kitun (47:54.882)

Coming across. So it it was not easy, but it it worked out. It was fun. Everyone goes back, reset. He cuts it. Now it's like 30 people. This one I put to like 18 feet, two putt, par, keep going. Third round, now there's you know 20 people. I stuck there's a video I posted on Instagram that I stuck that shit five feet. It's pitch black, it's 1115 at night. Five feet, roll in the putt, Birdie. Now it's down to five people. We go back, fourth time, fourth round, tee off again.

I hit that one like twelve feet. Just I mean, I th I thought it the nicest, it was actually the nicest one. It was nicer than the five footer, because the five kind of bounced up. This was like bam like a fucking dart. I hit the ball and I just didn't have enough steam on it. It goes to the front of the lip and right at the front door gets boop turned away. And it I I like it hit the lip and it just if it had one rotation more, it goes in, and instead it just kinda swipes away. And the other dude made made his putts and

Venmo Joe (48:26.179)

you were dialed.

Scott Kitun (48:53.165)

I take second place. but it was that was such a fun time.

Venmo Joe (48:55.186)

How long did that how long did that how long did that hole last the the tenth hole take? The four or five rounds?

Scott Kitun (49:02.857)

I f so four rounds we started probably around ten ish. eleven forty-five roughly I was done and I was over at your place the prospect by midnight. So closed down. We got a drink in line.

Venmo Joe (49:07.857)

Okay.

Venmo Joe (49:12.092)

Man.

Venmo Joe (49:16.968)

But you guys went you guys still went out to the prospect after all that?

Scott Kitun (49:20.895)

Yes, there was other people who went there as they l as they got busted out. I went there for a beer. They closed and then the other guys actually went to another bar like down the street and like went on. I went home at that point because I felt like that was probably sufficient. But yeah, it was it was a good time. That was that was the highlight. Yeah, so shout out to those guys. They'll be doing it again next year. Hopefully we can have the two of us next year.

Venmo Joe (49:23.026)

You're nuts.

Venmo Joe (49:35.826)

Yeah, I think you were good. That's awesome, man. Sounds like a blast. Sounds like an absolute blast.

Well wa way to way to way to represent way to represent no strokes there. they they definitely got the better golfer of us too, so I'm glad that you got to represent.

Scott Kitun (49:52.567)

We tried.

Second team, second individual, I'll take it. First is better, second sucks, but it was a lot of fun. So well, we are running well I don't even have a response for that.

Venmo Joe (49:58.643)

Yeah, not bad. Not bad. Not bad. No wonder you like Cam Young so much.

Venmo Joe (50:12.104)

Ha ha ha.

Scott Kitun (50:12.587)

We we we don't have a ton of time left on the show, but I do wanna to to step up for the three because I know this is a personal favorite of yours. what do we have going for us in the it's in the Twin Cities, right? Did I read that right?

Venmo Joe (50:23.868)

Yeah, it's in the Twin Cities, right? So T PC, Twin Cities, kinda standard T PC layout, right? So you're gonna you're gonna have a a good mix of birdie opportunities because they've got some short par fours, they've got three reachable par fives, which I always love, and then they've got the stadium style part threes. but then they throw in a bunch of water hazards, right? So I I I read kind of their approach, which is

their tournament founder said, We want birdies and we want train wrecks and we don't want to be the hardest golf course on the tour, which I just it's a good segue from like the major season ending, right? Like it's a it's not too serious of a tournament. I'm still kind of shocked that Scotty Scheffler is in the field, like I think everyone is. Like it doesn't make a whole lot of sense that he committed to this, but he is there, and then there is a pretty steep drop-off from

Scotty to like I think the next betting favorite might be Kurt Kiddyama at like twenty to one. So you've got Scotty that's probably going off. I'll check it right now. He's probably going off at his standard two to three to one at these at these non signature. Yeah, he's yeah, dude, he's plus two sixty five and then Kiddyyama and Mav McNeely, Hadeki and Tom Kim round out the favorites there.

Scott Kitun (51:34.411)

Eighty six percent chance to win.

Venmo Joe (51:45.875)

I don't know. I just I this this to me, it's kind of like John Deere a little bit where it tends to be a little bit of a shootout. like the tournament founder said, you get some train wrecks because of the the strategically placed hazards that they've got there. it's nice going back to a course that's got it's a par seventy one instead of a par seventy that we just saw. and we've kind of just got a whole host of like random winners that

Have won there, right? Like Cameron Champ. You remember that guy, the guy that hits it a mile. He won here a couple of years ago. Kitty Yama won last year. we had the shootout back in 2019 with Matthew Wolf. God, I missed that guy too. That guy's absurd swing. Live another guy that that live ruined. him and Bryson. There was a shootout in in 2019. And like the good thing that you're getting here is that,

Scott Kitun (52:16.66)

yeah.

Venmo Joe (52:40.338)

Yes, the top of the field is not great, but you're getting a lot of guys that you probably normally wouldn't get because the FedEx playoffs have now shrunk to top 70 instead of top 125. So you have a lot of guys that are either on the outside looking in or on the inside, but they're barely on the inside. So this is a huge tournament for FedEx FedEx playoff standings. so I think you're just gonna get some good drama.

Key stats here, right? Like none of these are are different than what we usually talk about, but shots gained off the T, shots gained approach, ball striking. You're gonna be looking for for guys that are birdies are better gained and you know, obviously with the bogey avoidance with with all of the all of the hazards. But we have seen guys that we've seen long shots win here before, which is what I'm excited about. A guy you and I talked about last week that I really like here.

He's a top 10 player in total driving. Is Johnny Kiefer? I'm gonna play him. I like I like Michael Brennan. That's a guy that's been kind of like hanging around, has played really well at some tournaments, has won once before. and then a guy I like that I don't know if I even want to recommend to our listeners, but I I can't quit this guy, Cam Davis, the big Aussie, who

Seemingly forgot how to play golf maybe over the last like twelve months. no, but I'm tracking him because he played well at the Scottish Open. And he is a guy that he's won at he hasn't won the 3M, but he's been in the top ten here multiple times and he's won the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit, which I kind of th this seems like a very similar tournament to me, right? Good drivers of the golf ball.

Scott Kitun (54:08.673)

Good pick.

Venmo Joe (54:32.99)

Putting is kind of equalized here because it's they're just not hard greens to really read. so I like a guy that's one one on the tour a couple of times, that's got at one point an immense amount of talent. Like he made the president's cut before. Like he was going he's going off at 525 to one. So, like, you know, like I got a little inspired by the Ryan Fox 2000 to one hit, and I started looking way down the the odds board and

You know, my my old favorite Cam Davis was there. So sprinkle a little bit of beer money on him. and then I would also look at Mac Mesner, who I played at the John Deere. I think he finished second or third, had an unbelievable Sunday there. That guy's knocking on the door. so I want to be on him when he wins.

Scott Kitun (55:21.301)

I love it. This is I mean, what I like about this tournament and others like it is you get to meet golfers that you just probably don't pay attention to because the the cameras don't show you're watching normal tournaments, they just don't ever show these guys. Keefers, I mean that's how I found Kiefir is I I was watching a couple of random shots. He got himself in some weirdo position a few tournaments ago, blasted the piss out of the ball, made a bunch of jokes about it. I was like, who the fuck is this guy?

And instantaneously liked him. He ended up being my make the cut pick in in the in the British as well. And he did, yeah.

Venmo Joe (55:52.765)

And he did it. And he did it. And he did it. I yeah, I I like him. I I circled him for for 3M. I think we talked two weeks ago. So yeah, I I like that guy. Uber amount of talent. Let's just hope that it just doesn't turn into a Scotty production, right? Where it's just showing every every one of his sh I know, but it's just like it it it's either, you know, let him be running away with the tournament so that I can just tune it out or

Scott Kitun (56:10.111)

It's going to be. I mean it's it's

Venmo Joe (56:19.728)

let him not be in contention so that we can actually, you know, have a fine have a weekend where you're actually following the guys that are in contention. And hopefully it's it's one or one or two of the guys that that I just gave out here.

Scott Kitun (56:33.525)

Mac would be one who I would be rooting for. I I think I love watching his his game. Yeah. I just I love the game. Yeah.

Venmo Joe (56:36.326)

Like Mac. He's really good. I mean, like I'm just saying yeah, Matt like between Mac, like 'cause Cam Davis, listen, you know, put ten bucks on it. If it hits, you're gonna you're gonna go home five thousand dollars richer. But there's a reason that he's five hundred and twenty five to one. Like Kiefer, Mac, and Brennan all have a legitimate shot at at contending. And I I'd be surprised if if one of at least one of them wasn't in contention come Sunday.

If not multiple of those.

Scott Kitun (57:06.177)

I'm gonna go ahead and say it's it's gonna be as much as Scotty's the favorite, and maybe, you know, I don't have a PJ, so maybe I don't know the difference, but I gotta imagine going to the Twin Cities from from from Europe is not an easy adjustment. So if if you did not play in the British and you're generally a good golfer, I'm going to give you a couple extra points this week. That's how I'm looking at it.

Venmo Joe (57:18.248)

Yes.

Venmo Joe (57:30.242)

I I would I would agree. I think it's a it's a it's a tough turn and like that's part of why I like these like the Scotty thing. Yeah, it could he come and win. I just I can't imagine that he's gonna be like really Uber focused on this. I just I can't see it, right? After being in contention at the open, having to come back from England, you know, England to to the Twin Cities. That's a

it's it's quite the dichotomy, right? That's that's quite the quite the change. So it'll be I'm with you.

Scott Kitun (58:01.473)

You've seen all sorts of people if you've done that trip. So I love it. I'm looking forward to it. you and I will be texting and gambling just as always and having a good time with this. I like I said, I the the biggest highlight to me is if you have been listening to the show and you really are starting to get into golf and watching all these tournaments, there are so many fucking good players that we just never heard of. And and the reason that you and I could be like, who's Ryan Fox? Like actually Jen asked me, we were in bed and she's like, Who's our Fox? I was like, Ryan Fox.

Venmo Joe (58:04.999)

So I'm with ya.

Venmo Joe (58:09.659)

Always

Venmo Joe (58:20.744)

So many.

Scott Kitun (58:30.135)

How did I know Ryan Fox? Because he's been he's been around. He's had a couple he had a couple top fourteen, top fifteen. I remember watching him.

Venmo Joe (58:35.39)

Well dude and ma yeah, and rem I mean, like, dude, at this point, you I just thought about this as you said this. Sam Burns has got to fucking hate Ryan Fox, because Ryan Fox is who beat him in the Canadian Open playoff last year. Remember, they I I think they played like three or four different they kept playing eighteen, right? 'Cause they kept having to move the the hole. Yeah. And so Fox got him there and Fox got him at the open. Poor Sam Burns, man.

Scott Kitun (58:47.767)

Yep. Yes.

Scott Kitun (58:55.637)

Yeah, that's yes, yes, yes. See, you don't

Ye you don't you don't wanna mess with the fox, man. What does the fox say? You know the song. What does the fox say? All right, buddy, we will we will catch up soon enough. Thank you so much for taking time with us.

Venmo Joe (59:04.136)

Poor Sam Burns. Ugh. Yeah yeah. Alright buddy.

Venmo Joe (59:14.375)

Always man. See ya. Bye.
